Inspiration for pieces explained: Mother Bird Necklace

I had the idea for this piece after I created my Woven Silver Bird Necklace (http://www.jewellerydragon.com/N22050.htm). I wanted to create a smaller version, and realised that by creating a nest to go with it, I could make a very unusual piece!

I wanted agate for the eggs, but found some Mookite instead, which I love. The nest is woven silver, but far more solid than the bird, giving the bird an airy, light look.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Woven Silver Bird Necklace

I love Edwardian pieces, and decided to copy a classic of a love bird. I have woven pure silver into the piece to give it texture.

I added an amethyst for an eye as I felt it would shine out, black may have been better but I felt it would make the piece look a little dead, and red would make the bird look mad!

This piece took hours of work, and remains the most complicated piece I have made (until the one I'm doing now, that is!).
