I'm always looking for something different, so when I discovered the joys of making a 'beady bead' (a big bead made from smaller beads), I just had to give it a go. I adore this technique because you get a delicate, lacy effect in the large bead, with detail from the smaller ones. I used solid silver wire to create these, I didn't want to spoil the piece by using anything else.

I found the mother of pearl at an antiques shop, and decided it would go perfectly with a garnet necklace. I am so pleased with the result, the creamy mother of pearl goes with the garnets so well.

I wanted a romantic piece, and decided that a heart would fit the bill perfectly. I decided that the shape said it all, but added garnets and silver beads to give the piece texture.

I adore the richness of red garnet and the creamy white of pearls. Adding them together is just a dream combination for me, and the flat, round shape of the garnets frames each pearl beautifully.

I bought a vintage necklace that was mother or pearl beads and a mother of pearl pendant. I decided to re-string the pendant on a contrasting set of beads (note to self, still to do), which left me with a lot of vintage mother of pearl! I thought that a bracelet was the best solution, and to add contrast I used my favourite hand-cut garnets to give richness to the bracelet.
This one is slightly unusual in that I created an animation to show it being created! You can view the animation below, of see the full thing on YouTube: http://youtu.be/QiMzSQGEEEQ.

I found these hearts at a supplier, and decided that they would look great with red. Having these hand-cut garnets already, it wasn't too much of a leap to add them together!

I adore the silver beads I used in this necklace, they are hand made in India and have such a pretty look! Pairing them with garnet was a no-brainer, the colour just shines out from the necklace.

The garnets in this necklace were just crying to be shown off. I had the square profile rock crystals, and though they both mirrored the shape of the garnets, but also brought forward that wonderfully rich, deep red. But how to use them? Side by side the two types of stone locked together and would have left very ugly wire showing if I could get it to bend! However, the simple addition of a silver bead between each garnet means that the necklace is now both flexible, and extra gorgeous!

I adore red and yellow together, and these work so well I couldn't resist. The strong yellow citrine with that deep, rich red garnet, all enhanced with the pretty and sparkly rock crystal. All in all, fit for a queen.

I adore these garnets, the red is just so rich that I wanted to pair them up with a pearl. I chose these pearls as they have a wonderful, crisp, white colour, and a stunning glow to them. Lovely.

I have had these silver beads for a long time, but I couldn't get the look right for them. It was an accidental pairing with these gorgeous garnets that made the piece sing for me, the silver with the garnets is just stunning.

When you make jewellery, occasionally you end up with orphaned gems, the remnants of past pieces. These pretty gems were such items, they had been waiting for ages for me to use them. However, when I started to create the curved, dangle earrings, these were an obvious choice. I could have made them all the same length, but decided to create different lengths instead, creating a layered and feathery look. It was so worth the wait, because these gems now shine out and create so much sparkle and movement they are just stunning!
