Inspiration for pieces explained: Emerald Bracelet

These emeralds are delicious. Large, chunky, and very gorgeously green. Just where are you every going to find a bracelet with this many carats of emeralds? When I got them, it was tempting to make a necklace, but I decided on a bracelet because it would be just so unusual. The stones have wonderful faceting on the edges, so setting them that way allowed the facets to really shine. This setting also has the advantage of allowing you to view the whole stone. Stunning, and fun!

Inspiration for pieces explained: Fossil Bracelet

Fossil jasper is one of natures wonders. It actually contains fossilised creatures (usually coral), but also has colour and beauty of its own. Now I admit to making a grave error when I bought these stones, I didn't check the size, so my pairs of earrings I was expecting to make were suddenly gone, the stones were too small!

However, I realised I could make a necklace, so started to plan it out... realising very quickly that they would make a far better bracelet. After all, what better than to be able to stare at these gorgeous little gems in detail? On the neck you'd never get to know them!

In the end it was a happy accident, and I'm still trying to persuade myself not to sell the piece!

Inspiration for pieces explained: Pink Chalcedony Bracelet

I love pink quartz, but finding good quality stones is very difficult. So when I was looking to make a pink bracelet, I found some chalcedony stones instead. The colour is intense, and the layering of this piece makes it feel substantial and rich to wear.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Fool's Gold Bracelet

I love fool's gold as it's such a wonderful colour, not the garish colour of gold, but a softer, antique version. I bought these square stones with the mission to make this bracelet, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. The gold and silver go so well.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Garnet and Pearl Bracelet

I adore the richness of red garnet and the creamy white of pearls. Adding them together is just a dream combination for me, and the flat, round shape of the garnets frames each pearl beautifully.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Black and White Bracelet

I adore these stones. They have such an unusual cut, and the frosted/faceted quality of them is just stunning, and subtle. I added the black agates to give a lovely contrast.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Rock Crystal Bracelet

I adore rock crystal, and loved the shape of these. I originally bought them to create a necklace, but after looking at them lined up together, decided that what they really need to be was a bracelet, with multiple rows. Unfortunately with changed plans I had to go out and buy more beads as I was one bead short to complete the bracelet! Hmmm, now that's got me thinking, what about a matching necklace? Could be good...

Inspiration for pieces explained: Vintage Mother of Pearl and Garnet Bracelet

I bought a vintage necklace that was mother or pearl beads and a mother of pearl pendant. I decided to re-string the pendant on a contrasting set of beads (note to self, still to do), which left me with a lot of vintage mother of pearl! I thought that a bracelet was the best solution, and to add contrast I used my favourite hand-cut garnets to give richness to the bracelet.

This one is slightly unusual in that I created an animation to show it being created! You can view the animation below, of see the full thing on YouTube: http://youtu.be/QiMzSQGEEEQ.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Labrodite and Vintage Glass Bracelet

When I found this labrodite, I had to have it. Labrodite contains glimmering purples, greens, blues and yellows, and these beads are simply the best I have ever owned. Now I could have just re-strung, but I decided to get the maximum out of each stone I needed to add contrast and darkness, with the lovely vintage glass. This allows you to view each labrodite as an individual, and revel in their stunning beauty.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Amber Delight Bracelet

I was given this Baltic amber by a relative. It's about twenty years old, and has a wonderful, mellow colour. As the amber is so clear and pretty, I wanted to set it in silver to give the maximum effect. A dangly charm-style bracelet was the way to go, giving each piece of amber a chance to shine. I chose this style as I wanted the piece to be contemporary looking, yet still show each piece perfectly. Job done!

Inspiration for pieces explained: Double Trouble Bracelet

I had two very similar strands of amethyst faceted gems, and wanted to create a dangly, waterfall bracelet. I chose to mix the colours together as I loved the idea of shading throughout the bracelet. Rather than start with the darker colours and move to the lighter, I chose to mix them throughout. The effect is very subtle, but gives a lot of depth to the piece.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Adventurine Blocks Bracelet

I love adventurine as it has such a wonderful green colour, and amazing glitter to the stones. I wanted to create a bracelet that was striking, but simple, and as I had these large blocks, I thought they would be ideal. I could have added more stones of the same size, or different shapes, but I loved the bold contrast between the silver and the green, the ovals of the chain and the strong, cube shape.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Water Droplets Bracelet

I adore rock crystal, and felt that these stones needed to shine individually. As putting them too close together caused the stones to lock, I decided to add a silver bead between them to make sure the stones would have some freedom of movement.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Spring Bracelet

I adore green, so the chance to buy these little beauties didn't pass me by. I love using different sizes and shapes together, I think it adds to the texture of the piece, and gives it additional depth. I also love it when the stones have different shadings, and even different colours, again it adds to the beauty of the piece.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Pure Gold, Pure Pearl Bracelet

Inspiration for pieces explained: Black Sparkle Stretchy Bracelet

I was given a vintage glass necklace with stunning beads, each contains all the colours of the rainbow. As the overall effect was rather too much, I decided to create a bracelet with black agate and the pretty glass beads. It works really well as the gleaming black grounds and emphasises the rainbow shafts of light that come off the pretty stones.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Amethyst and Silver Bracelet

I had the amethysts left over from another project, and really wanted them to so in something special. I found the Karen Hill Tribe silver rounds, and had to have them to make this bracelet. The deep purple shines out from the silver so amazingly, I'm so glad I made that choice.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Multi-Coloured Quartz Bracelet

I adore this bracelet because the colours and cuts of the gems are just so original! Each stone is shaped like a little anvil, but with a soft, frosted interior, and sharp, glistening facets. The colours range from clear to black, giving a lovely depth to this stunning bracelet.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Fresh and Clean Bracelet

I adore the cut of these stones, they have faceted ends that sparkle with an icy bright glint, and frosted middles, and the white quartz is just so fresh. I have used these as interlocking pieces, as the quartz is shaped to fit together, but decided instead to add some ping with a fresh, bright colour... and it had to be peridot. This piece really leaps off the wrist!
