I had had the shell charms for a while. I would occasionally try them as charms, but felt that they needed a showcase. I ended up deciding that simplicity was the way, and what they needed were pearls, giving a lovely link to the shells, and creating a stunning piece.

I found the original cufflinks at a fair years ago, but never quite knew how to mount them. The cufflinks weren't silver, and were in bad condition, so restoration was impossible. I tried several ways of mounting the earrings but it never worked, I put silver balls into the holes, tried them vertically, until I hit on the idea of wire-wrapping through the holes. I love the end product, and although they don't quite match, they are a stunning pair of earrings, with a lovely heritage!

When you make jewellery, occasionally you end up with orphaned gems, the remnants of past pieces. These pretty gems were such items, they had been waiting for ages for me to use them. However, when I started to create the curved, dangle earrings, these were an obvious choice. I could have made them all the same length, but decided to create different lengths instead, creating a layered and feathery look. It was so worth the wait, because these gems now shine out and create so much sparkle and movement they are just stunning!

These stones have caused me a lot of issues in the past. Although they are quite large, they have very narrow drilled holes, so I had to wait until I could buy findings that were small enough to fit through. I decided to create a single dangle, but once I had created then, realised that multiple dangles was the way to go.
