Inspiration for pieces explained: Pink Chalcedony Bracelet

I love pink quartz, but finding good quality stones is very difficult. So when I was looking to make a pink bracelet, I found some chalcedony stones instead. The colour is intense, and the layering of this piece makes it feel substantial and rich to wear.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Garnet Beady Bead Earrings

I'm always looking for something different, so when I discovered the joys of making a 'beady bead' (a big bead made from smaller beads), I just had to give it a go. I adore this technique because you get a delicate, lacy effect in the large bead, with detail from the smaller ones. I used solid silver wire to create these, I didn't want to spoil the piece by using anything else.

Inspiration for pieces explained: Graduated Sapphire Earrings

I adore sapphires, and being fortunate enough to work with them, I wanted to create something really special. As sapphires come in a massive range of colours, and the stones I own had a large range in the blues, I decided to graduate the blue to accentuate the beauty of the stones. I also made a pair of ruby earrings in this way for myself, but they lack the colour range, and I have to say this is far lovelier!

Inspiration for pieces explained: Butterfly Necklace

My favourite thing at the moment is to sculpt with wire and gemstones. There is nothing lovelier than the idea of someone wearing a sculpture by you! So I decided to create a butterfly. I wanted it to be as real as I could get, reproducing the actual design of a British butterfly.

However, as I started on this peacock butterfly, I realised that there was too much detail in a butterflies wing for me to be able to capture, the tiny stones I work with were too large! So instead I went for a close approximation, and I think that by sticking with the colour scheme I did the right thing, the butterfly looks almost real!
